INTRODUCTION

TERRARIUMS are plants growing in bottles which can be recycled glass bottles, vases, jars, etc.  There are Open and Closed Terrariums.  As early as 500 B.C., the Greeks displayed plants in enclosed glass bottles.  In 1827, Dr Nathanial Ward accidently discovered grass growing in enclosed containers for a few years without having to water them.  He did further research on Terrariums and this has become popular as decorative displays.  Today, workgroup personnels who loves plants and nature need not worry they have no time to care for plants.  By owning a closed terrarium, you only need to place them in areas with sufficient lightings (natural or flourescent) and little or no care is required.  Don't worry if you go on a trip, they will be as healthy as they are when you return home.

CLOSED TERRARIUMS are easy to take care.  These are good for people who likes plants and nature but do not have the time to manage them.  There is no need to water the plants in a short period.  All they need is plenty of natural light or flourescent lighting, but note that there should be no direct sunlight.  Water vapours may form on the internal walls of the containers and this helps in self-watering.  It is amazing to see how the plants can grow well in an enclosed container.

OPEN TERRARIUMS are more commonly used for plants like cactuses.  Watering is necessary.  This is a little more tidious than the closed terrariums where care and attention is needed.
